Overview

A Preliminary Analysis of Options has been prepared to assist stakeholders understanding the issues, risks and potential impacts of proposed changes to the fire safety requirements for Early Childhood Centres (ECCs) in the public comment draft of Amendment 1 to the National Construction Code (NCC) 2019.

The fire engineering reports Fire Safety of Early Childhood Centres in High Rise Buildings in Australia, report prepared by RED Fire Engineers and its technical review Technical Review of Report: Fire Safety of Early Childhood Centres in High Rise Buildings in Australia, prepared by EFT Consulting  have informed the proposed changes and can be downloaded from the 'Related' section below.

The ABCB’s Preliminary Analysis of Options sets out options, inlcuding those identified through the fire risk analysis to reduce the risk from fire for vulnerable occupants in Early Childcare Centres (ECCs) in high-rise buildings.

Why your views matter

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is interested to hear the views of stakeholders on the analysis. The 'Online survey' includes questions to guide respondents on the matters where more information may assist analysis.

Feedback on the analysis can be provided in by responding to the consultation questions before 11:59PM AEDT Friday 11 October 2019.

What happens next

Responses to consultation questions will assist the Board and its committees in the assessment of the options proposed and their decison making process. 

The ABCB Office will review relevant information and where neccessary update analysis for use by the Board as an input into its decision-making.
