WMTS:040-2024 | Public Comment Draft Round 1

Closes 5 Mar 2025

Opened 11 Dec 2024

Overview

For Public Comment

Technical Specification for the WaterMark Certification Scheme

This Technical Specification sets out requirements for metallic and plastic-bodied waste pipe outlets and gratings, separate or integral, for sanitary plumbing applications.

In resolving the previous public comments for draft WMTS-040-2023-Round 1, several technical changes were identified as requiring redrafting. In addition, while resolving the previous comments, it has been determined that not all the proposed changes for the specification were clearly identified, making it difficult for members of the public to comment on all changes comprehensively.

The initial 2023 draft proposal presented to the ABCB proposed changes to the specification within the materials section, particularly stainless steel and aluminium. Evidence provided to the ABCB identified that aluminium is incompatible with water of a pH greater than 8.5. Waters received from tile glue and other cementitious products produce waters with a pH range of between 10 and 13. This standard pH is beyond the safety limit of 8.5. The aluminium can be dissolved, creating a loss of amenities, financial and health risks.

For the above reasons, the ABCB wishes to consult again on the proposed changes to draft WMTS-040. Please note that only comments relating to the proposed changes, as highlighted within the draft document, will be considered.

To further assist in understanding the proposed changes, a summary of significant changes to this draft revision is provided below: -

(i) Changes to the materials section, including stainless steel and aluminium materials.

(ii) Changes to marking requirements to be as per the WaterMark Scheme Rules.

(iii) Additional requirements for floor waste outlet bodies, grating surround and channels.

(iv) Addition of requirements for removable grates other than tile insert type.

(v)  Addition of requirements for tile insert grating.

(vi)  Addition of performance test sequences.

(vii) Changes to Appendix A, Type Test Table

Note:- Only comments relating to the proposed changes as highlighted within the draft document will be considered.
