The only true option to reducing energy consumption is working towards a zero annual consumption method for related building services and heating and cooling

Please explain your response and provide additional information to support your view.
This performance requirement along with the current star rating system is failing to really assess orientation of dwellings, shading from neighbouring fences, trees, houses that can dramatically change the heating and cooling loads required.

I think the threshold should be related to renovation/extension of existing dwellings to ensure that these works are still viable for home owners and we are not placing unreasonable costs.

Question 11

Please select all that apply
Checkbox: Unticked Yes, renewable energy equipment
Checkbox: Unticked Yes, electric vehicle charging
Checkbox: Ticked No
Please explain your response and provide additional information to support your view.
I believe that trying to make a dwelling capable to accomodate future technology will become cost prohibitive and may not end in a greater uptake of this equipment. There is also substantial chance that by the time the owner chooses to fit the equipment, the provisions may be outdated and no longer compliant and need to be changed to suit.

Question 12

Please provide any additional information in the space provided.
I think that the current star rating system is drastically flawed. If we are looking at making dwellings consume less energy thn we need to look at the embodied energy that is used to produce the materials we are using. There is no point in producing a home that consume less energy if the the materials used produce the equal or greater amount of energy saved. Thermal perfomance in a whole of house solution should not be the only consiberation to the rating a material is given. Much greater consideration needs to be given to rewnewable resources when looking at overall dwelling performance.
